Dental Check-Up and Clean in Fortitude Valley

Regular check-ups and cleans are one of the simplest ways to look after your teeth and gums. They allow us to find small concerns early, remove the build-up that brushing and flossing cannot, and give you practical advice for caring for your smile at home.

At Precision Dental, your check-up is thorough, unhurried and focused on you.

What Is a Dental Check-Up and Clean?

A check-up is a comprehensive examination of your teeth, gums, bite and the soft tissues of your mouth. A professional clean, also known as a scale and polish, removes plaque and hardened tartar from above and just below the gum line, followed by polishing to reduce surface staining.

Together, these appointments help prevent tooth decay and gum disease, two of the most common dental conditions affecting Australians.

Is a Check-Up and Clean Right for You?

Everyone benefits from regular dental visits, including children, teenagers, adults and older adults. Many people attend every six months, although your recommended interval may be shorter or longer depending on your oral health. More frequent visits may be suggested if you:

  • Have a history of gum disease or frequent decay
  • Are pregnant, as hormonal changes can affect gum health
  • Have diabetes or another condition that influences oral health
  • Wear braces, aligners or dentures
  • Smoke

If it has been some time since your last visit, you are very welcome. There is no judgement here, only a fresh start.

What Happens at Your Appointment

Getting to Know You

We start by asking about your medical history, any concerns you have noticed and your goals for your teeth.

Examination

We carefully check each tooth for decay, cracks and wear, assess existing fillings and crowns, measure your gum health and examine your tongue, cheeks and palate. Our intra-oral camera allows us to show you close-up images on screen.

Digital X-Rays

Where needed, low-dose digital X-rays help us see between teeth and beneath the surface. X-rays are recommended based on your individual risk rather than at every visit.

Scale and Polish

Plaque and tartar are gently removed with ultrasonic and hand instruments, and your teeth are polished. A fluoride treatment may be recommended to strengthen enamel.

Your Personalised Plan

We explain our findings, answer your questions and provide tips for your home care. If any treatment is recommended, such as white fillings or gum and periodontal treatment, we explain your options and costs.

Aftercare and Ongoing Care

Brush twice daily for two minutes with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, and clean between your teeth once a day with floss or interdental brushes. Limit sugary snacks and drinks, drink plenty of water and avoid smoking. Book your next visit at the interval recommended for you.

Why Choose Precision Dental for Your Check-Up and Clean

We take the time to explain what we see, using intra-oral photographs and digital imaging so you can understand your oral health. Our team works gently, and we offer noise-cancelling headphones and ceiling-mounted televisions to help you relax. Families may also be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.

Fees, Health Funds and Payment Options

The cost of your treatment depends on your individual needs. After your examination, we talk you through your options and the expected fees before any treatment begins. We accept most major health funds, process claims on the spot through HICAPS and are a preferred provider for Bupa, HCF and CBHS. Payment plans are available through DentiCare for eligible patients, subject to terms and conditions. You can learn more on our Prices and Payment Options page.
